The Next Day...

The next day we were able to visit the Sovereign Grace Church in Roanoke.  It was great to be able to fellowship with other Christians.  It was fun.  We knew most of the songs and just enjoyed being around a like-minded church.  Plus, there's always something about Sovereign Grace churches in that the people who attend are generally extremely friendly.  Maybe it's just obvious that we're visitors, but we met a ton of people that day and were remembered by many when we visited again a few weeks later.  Anyway, it was great to get up and worship the same Jesus with people we didn't know in a town we were unfamiliar with.

We grabbed some lunch and then took off for the Virginia Museum of Transportation.  It was a bit overpriced for the exhibits, but it was a chance for the kids to see some cars and trains.  Not long after we got in the door we came across a model train set.  The boys were definitely excited to see it!  (So was I!)  We watched the trains appear and disappear in and out of tunnels for a good while.

There was a hands-on prop teaching Ethan how the piston mechanism works for the locomotive wheels.

The boys found an old Model T with an unlocked door to climb in.  It wasn't until after we took the pictures that we saw the "Do Not Touch" sign.  Well, we went way beyond touching.  They were driving and playing with the levers and all sorts of fun stuff.  Oh well!

Then it was out to the train yard for a look at some of the old locomotives.
