Isaiah 55:8-9~ For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
I had always thought this passage was referring to God's holiness or his wisdom, but reading it in context it actually is speaking primarily of His compassion and His readiness to forgive. Isn't that amazing?!? God is not like us... and that is a very good thing. When someone hurts us, we tend to want revenge... or at least a really, really good apology. But God is not like us. When we return to Him, He will "abundantly pardon."
