Hershey's Cho-co-late

On the way home from Rosemary and Steve's wedding, we had the opportunity to visit our dear church in Reading (sooo wonderful to see our friends there and to hear God's word preached!).  Then, we took a field trip to Hershey's Chocolate World.  We have this great science book that talks about how things are made, including chocolate... could NOT pass that one up without making it into a field trip ;-)!  My parents ended up meeting us in Hershey to join us... after all, a Lyche cannot pass up chocolate (especially when there are grandkids in the deal :-).  So we met them at Red Robin (YUM) and then went on to Hershey's Chocolate World.

I found out from Hershey's website that they had a "Create-Your-Own-Candy-Bar" experience where you select the kind of bar you want (milk, dark, or white chocolate), add your choice of inclusions, and even design your own wrapper.  Normally Jim and I wouldn't spend the money on something like that, but since it was for a field trip, it was perfect... and then my dad went and treated! (Thanks, Papa!).

We also rode the Chocolate Ride, which explains about the process of taking the cacao bean to the finished product.  Here I am pointing out the sign to the right about the history of Hershey (for those of you who don't know, Hershey is the last name of founder Milton Hershey who set up his factory in PA close to all the dairy cows who provided the milk for the chocolate that he made).

We really had a great day!  Thanks Mom and Papa for making it even sweeter ;-)
