We arrived in Charleston and checked into our hotel downtown. It was a great hotel. It allowed us to walk almost everywhere we needed to go, and for some reason our floor included a free soda fountain!!
The view from the room was pretty nice, too!!!
That evening, after walking through the downtown market, we enjoyed dinner at the Charleston Crab House. We had our first attempt at "Low Country Boil." It's one of those 'throw everything in a pot, and some spice, and see what happens' kind of dishes. I can't say it was my favorite, but the experience was still worth it!
After dinner we enjoyed a nice walk along the waterfront. We found a Belgian gelato shop along the way. The 'Belgian style' meant that they filled the bottom of the cone with chocolate. It wasn't as good as it sounded. While we could've done without the filling, the ice cream was fantastic! We continued along and enjoyed the view of the harbor at sunset. After that was a slow stroll back to the hotel. I noticed a beautiful fountain inside a gated backyard, so I had to pull out the tripod and take a few pictures. It was a little awkward taking pictures through a vine-covered gate into someones backyard, but it was worth it!!
It was a great first day together enjoying the city, it's food, and it's sights!
