Day 2 started with a trip to the Children's Museum. It was a bit out in the country, and not exactly what we expected, but there were some redeeming qualities. Some of the rooms contained great things to play with and explore.
There was a two story "doll house" the kids really enjoyed playing in.
The museum was in a town called Oak Ridge. I had never heard of it but learned a whole lot about it. Back in the 1940's the U.S. Government actually built the whole town. They built schools, and churches, and several significant research labs. Apparently this is where a lot of the research for the Manhattan Project occurred. It was located near a hydroelectric plant, which provided a reliable source of electric for the facilities. The Tennessee hills provided lower visibility of the plants from roads, and they also provided buffers should something go wrong with an experiment!
After lunch we were off to the Discovery Center. This was more of a science museum with lots of fun things to play with.
