Hi all,
We've been asked a few times lately for an update on Leah. We've heard some details this morning. Leah's doing okay. She's having issues with getting oxygen into her blood. So, they have her on an oscillating ventilator. This machine has her taking 900 tiny breaths every minute. They want tiny breaths so she doesn't have to fully inflate or deflate her lungs. She has to take a sedative though so her body allows this kind of breathing. Her blood pressure is holding steady. They have her on hydrocortisone to keep it steady. They also have her on a preventative antibiotic to stop infection. Apparently hydrocortisone makes infections worse when they occur, so they're trying to ensure no infections. On top of that she's taking a vitamin pack and lipids. The hospital decided that she no longer take milk. I'm not sure of the reasons behind all of it, but they felt it was better to wait on 'real' food for now.
Ryan and Chris sound pretty tired. They're spending all day every day at the hospital. Please pray that they'll be able to get some good rest, that God would keep the baby stable and allow real food to resume soon, and that He'd give the doctors incredible wisdom in dealing with the situation. Thanks for your prayers.
