This summer, Jim and I really wanted to encourage Ethan to keep going with his reading. We saw a lot of growth in his reading abilities throughout kindergarten and didn't want to lose steam during summer. So we came up with a summer reading program. For every book he read, he was awarded a certain number of stars. The number of stars varied based on number of pages, number of words on the page, and difficulty level of the book (most books were 1-3 stars). Then, when he crossed certain thresholds, he got a prize of some sort. The last prize was a reading trophy. With school starting this week, he had to work hard to get enough stars, but on Saturday, he read enough books to claim his prize. So we went out to our favorite pizza place (Stevie B's) on Sunday and presented to him his trophy. He was so excited to get it!

So the summer reading program was a success. He not only maintained his reading level, but he continued to grow. Plus, it made him really excited to read, which is a HUGE part of learning. Way to go, Ethan!!! We are so proud of you!
